This plant is native to Texas and looks prickly. It's usually in pastures and long country roads. Please make your guesses and come back here for an update on Friday. 
Update:Well, it does look like a thistle. I have been looking and looking to find out the exact name of this but haven't been able to find it. Texas thistle sounds good except that all pictures I have seen are different. The flower is on a long stalk and this isn't. I imagine it is a thistle. I was hoping to get a positive ID. For now, I'll go with Texas Thistle. *wink* Thanks for playing along. I've got another one coming next week. Check back on Wed.
