A Bird Day

On Sunday on our way to town there was some stinky skunk road kill and there were 5 black vultures and 1 crested caracara also known as the Mexican Eagle. I still don't have my zoom lens so you will have to click on the image to see it closer. As you see the crested caracara was the first to fly away as we drove up. It landed on the field. I will one day take a closerloser picture of this bird. Till then this is all I have.

Cool! My 4 year old loves vultures, so I'll have to show him your picture. We saw several turkey vultures last month - they are pretty common here - and so checked out some books when he wanted to find out more. He was thrilled to discover that they projectile vomit when attacked to scare away predators...lovely, eh? But to a 4 year old boy I guess that is pretty cool! :)

Nice to see photos where you can see green! And earth! Dirt! Amazing!

Yes, most boys love gross subjects like that. Mine are the same. I fixed the broken link to the picture of the crested caracara so that now you can click on it and see it a little closer.

We don't get snow most of the time so all you see is dirt and green around here.

Oh, I'm so jealous! We saw the caracara at the "bird show", and now I'd LOVE to see one in person!!! I do think I saw an American Kestrel last weekend, but I was driving and it was so quick and then I was past it... Maybe some day!!!
